Self-Satisfaction - Play Your Game! Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Self-Satisfaction - Play Your Game!

What can tomorrows give me
that I don't have today,
I have more of everything
and less of nothing;
I have just one moon overhead
but a million stars twinkling over me;
I have a over hundred enemies
and just fifty sincere friendships;
I have just a few roses
but many admirers of grace and beauty;
I have with me greatness of morality
and a splendid character to behold;
I have less of misunderstanding
but ample of prejudicial onlookers;
I have gained potfuls of reverence
as I invested in reverence of others;
I have love in my palms like water
to sip it when I feel thirsty or loveless;
I have less of losing, more of gaining
as I believe in contentment
and that what I got was what was destined for me
while on this earth I live;
I did not crave for what I could not have;
I ate sugar if I could not lay my hands on honey;
I walked the steps of hardships
if luck did not come running to embrace me;
I attained everything that was within my dreams,
I did not steal the fortune of others
neither I let greed or lust over ride my needs;
I knew today was what yesterday could give
I worked for it and every illusion I fulfilled
on my own strength, to my own satisfaction;
tomorrows can give me nothing
tomorrows can only take my life away
as death is the only thing I don't have for now.
