POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Explanation Note: I am comparing human soul to serpent for many reasons some are here:

They are shy in nature, they are lightning fast, they change their skin many times which purifies them from all sins, they are pure still venomous inside, they get intimidated, have no ears and go by feelings etc etc....to mention few.

Also, the spiritual progress of the human soul on its destined journey to reunite with the Divine takes place via the paths. The sinuous path that this course must follow resembles a snake, hence it is called the Serpent. The imagery is taken up in many sources: the Serpent entwined around a rod, the symbol known as the Caduceus, is a Hermetic emblem representing knowledge and learning. And the Serpent in the Garden of Eden was instrumental in persuading the soul to set out on its journey of evolution back towards God.
