Sensational Allegations Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Sensational Allegations

Today we live in times,
When accusations made...
Have taken a life of their own.
Giving those who accuse a way,
To get attention given...
From the public to bestow it.
Upon those unknown.
And with this done to do,
Creating sensational allegations.
Unproven yet destroys.
Anyone who has risen to heights of success.
Leaving them in a position,
To either defend themselves.
Or openly confess.
Without those who accuse,
To produce evidence or proof of truth...
As to how, when or where,
Their accusations with allegations made...
Began.
And why they waited to find the time,
To reveal what took place.
Before and not after,
Cameras and reporters...
Arrived with their attention focused,
On those finding their achievement and success...
More criticized to despise,
By the ones hoping to leech...
A few dollars to add to the lint,
To their empty pockets giving then consent...
With a doing done at the expense,
Of someone they claim...
Did something inappropriately.
Yet neither know.
Nor have ever met.
But attempt to ruin their reputation,
Integrity and existence.
With lies to tell.
To have them bought and sold.
