Sense And Semantics Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Sense And Semantics

Come from a distance,
To greet and meet...
Under Moon and Stars we do.
Choosing to exchange,
Semantics.
And a playing with language.
For fun and whatever fits,
The moment loving it.
With a doing to make okay,
Our way done...
To purposely misunderstand,
Understood to comprehend.

'Not one word have you said,
Makes sense to me.'

And the glue,
That keeps us together.
This we share,
To have in common.
But...uh...hmmm...
You're in the mood for clarity?
Or...
Could I be,
Misunderstanding?
To comprehend the obvious.

'I suppose.
So many seek 'chemistry'.
Similarities.
And the 'what-not-ness',
Of a 'whatever'.
To know not a thing,
About 'biology' at all.
Or...
What makes the hands,
Of a clock...
Tick to tock as if nonstop.'

Or 'geography'.
Said the bone specialist.

'And...
Who might that be? '

One seeking to know more,
About archaeology.
And a chemistry sought,
That stimulates a sustained...
Bone!

'Before?
Or after the wine? '
