Setting Fire To The Flames...That Burn My Heart - Poem by Dónall Dempsey

I burn your
precious letters

(you know the ones)

all paper promises
& lies...lies...lies.

I watch your words
curl at the edges

watch the flames

lick at sentences
tentatively

then devour pages
ravenously

your voice become
smoke

promises...lies
ashes...ashes.

A spare, lean poem with great emotional intensity! I would like to write poetry like this! Very moving!

I wish this would give me the courage to set fire to all the promises...lies...and turn them into ashes which would then blow away in the wind! Loved this one. (Report)Reply
