Shattered Freedom Poem by ellery lim

Shattered Freedom

As I stare into blank empty space
Looking again at the teachers boring face
Her words enter and leave
Never heard, never received
Her actions go so awkwardly
Her eyes glancing at us deceptively
Thinking of what I should do next
Badminton smash or basketball fakes
Disgusted at the stupid remarks
By stupid people in numbers of such
Watching the seconds slowly tick by
To escape this enclosure, into the sky
The glass windows rub salt into my wound
Bringing forth torture, bringing forth doom
As though it sees my misery
Does it see my pain?
Losing my mind
Going insane
Help save me
Help save me
‘I punched the windows
My bones shattered like glass
I threw a plastic table
Only to see how feeble
I was left with no choice
I ran and gained momentum
Rushed head first towards the glass
Shattered!
As I took my first step out of the room
My second and my third
Freedom!
I took my fourth
I fell…’
