She Slept Poem by Kewayne Wadley

She Slept

I watched her as she slept.
Admiring the beauty marks that rest beneath her eyes.
How peaceful she looked, laying there motionless.
Arm stretched out on my side of the bed.
Inhaling softly the lullaby of closed eyes before she wildly spread herself across the bed.
Most nights I'd wake up and see an ocean of sheets beside her as we lay on the shore of my side of the bed.
Comforter kicked at our feet.
Her breath calm as the wind swept from the vent when the AC kicked on.
Light seeping through the lamp shade resembling the sun set,
Christmas lights wrapped around a decorative tree plant, resting in the corner by a stack of books on the night stand.
A light sleeper, she'd often move when I would. Her arm wrapped tightly around me.
I felt at peace, waking up to see her beside me.
Precious, delicate in a world of limitless possibilities.
What I loved most was to see her reach for me when she'd notice I was gone.
A sleep broken to use the rest room in the middle of the night.
I'd always wake her up and pull her closer to me and wrap her in my arms.
Feeling the throb of her heart, dozing back off to one of the best sleeps I've ever had.
Sleeping peacefully under the lamp shade of a beautiful sunset
