Jootay
Sara din main ghoomti firti rehi
dargah jo saDak k kinaray hai
us k braamday main mere jootay
ab araam kar rehay hain.
Galeechay k kinaray
vo do kishtiaN se lag rehay hain
aur main gleechay pe chal rehi hoon
jaisay paani k paar jaa rehi hoon.
Vo ghanday hain
fir bhi, roshni un ko cHooti hai
andar dekhti hai
unko pehnti hai.
Kaisa lagay ga jootoN k andar?
main nangay paon intzaar karti hoon
kya vo pooray lagay gaiN?
roshni fir bhaag jaati hai
aur mere paon jootoN k andar
fir se jalnay lagtay hain.

Shoes
In the vestibule
between the street and the shrine
my shoes rest
after a whole day of wandering.
They rest there like boats
at the shoreline of the rug
through which I'm walking
like crossing the water.
They are dirty, yet
the light touches them,
peers in,
tries them on.
What would it be like inside?
I wait, barefoot.
Do they fit? But then it flees.
And the shoes, again on my feet, are burning.
