Should my thoughts be only seen in rhyme
And with a metric rhythm to bind
Devoid of rhyme, will it be a crime
Unfettered and free and unconfined
Should the tide be free to ebb and flow
Bringing pretty seashells to the shore
Will breakers built in unsightly rows
Prevent the moon from her daily chore
Can I walk well off the beaten track
Carefree and with a song in the air
If the unknown, force me to turn back
Will I have no surprises to share
Should the stream meander through the woods
With flora and fauna at their best
If channelled to flow straight as it stood
Will beauty fade with nature distressed
But if beauty's seen in all you view
And send your heart fluttering with joy
Just follow through in all you pursue
With creativity to deploy
And if you feel your poems' sublime
Pay little heed to what others say
With or without the rhythm and rhyme
Keep composing and do it your way
Fantastic write my friend.....! Beautifully rhyming! Though free verse is preferred in modern times and rhymed verse looked upon a little out dated, I still enjoy rhyming verse better! Yes, your advice at the end is so sensible....! Pay little heed to what others say, instead follow the bent of your mind! Top marks!
Hi my friend. Good to see you writing and submitting. Keep that wonderful brain engaged. Peace, Kelly
And if you feel your poems' sublime Pay little heed to what others say With or without the rhythm and rhyme Keep composing and do it your way Absolutely Loke! Each one should follow their heart. Compose a poem the way they like. I like the spirit in you that is honest and noble. Should poetry rhyme? Surely, it does in this fine poem. And why not? A full Mark, Loke! God bless!
Thanks Geeta, I accept the honest part (keeping one of my eyes closed when I said that!) But noble? ho ho ho! No! There isn't a noble bone in me. I write only for a bit of fun and to slow my aging brain cells from senility. If others enjoy reading my poems; I'm happy.
