Sky Mother Poem by Sharon Washburn Flynn

Sky Mother

She walked across the span of decades,
her face the delight of thousands.
In her hands, she held the heart of man,
the soul of a soul-less generation.
Stars rained down from the tip of her crown
and lit up an ageless sky.

Her arms circled around the globe
and embraced all who came before her.
Her golden wings spanned the width
and the breadth of the universe.
She heard the heartbeat of her people.
The joy of its arising and the sorrow
of its misunderstanding.

The vastness of her love filled an ocean
and spread from one sea to another.
Her regal beauty was regaled
around the campfires of the Ancient Ones.
She was the Mother of all romantic interludes,
the sister of all intelligence.

She drew breath upon breath
to breathe her healing upon the Earth.
Each night, her soul dotted the sky of desire
and told the story of a Woman
who gave life to many sons and daughters,
who opened the door to freedom
and allowed their spirits to fly free.
