Slurping Usurpers Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Slurping Usurpers

Usurpers slurping.
From one huge bowl.
Passed slowly around.
And once filled to the brim,
This kitchen refuse and wasted food...
Mixed with water.
Commonly known as swill.
Made no difference to those told,
The slurping of it...
Will give them power.
With untouchable rights to feel entitled.
Day and night.
Throughout the rest of their lives.
To incredibly believe,
Themselves glowing...
Under the brightest of self-righteous light!

And...
Slurped they did.
Imagining themselves,
Usurpers of power and status undenied.
Gobbling up the goop of swill.
As told to do.
Licking this huge bowl to leave it dry.
Believing their loyalty to show,
Would deliver prosperity...
Status to have it and power to get.

Yet...
Left sickened, duped, hoodwinked and tricked.
By the one they followed.
Who directed them to bathrooms.
After proving to them all,
The only power they have is to sit.
And await for their 'power' to create,
Odorless fumes.
Giving them the opportunity,
To participate...
In the making of a healthier climate.

"You made us fools."

-No!
I said...
Your loyalty will be rewarded,
In ways to leave you...
Feeling relief.
And sitting on thrones.
To reach and unleash,
This power you have created.
With a celebrating it as you wish.-

"This...
You could have made known to us."

-And spoil the surprise look in your eyes?
So much for you do I sacrifice.
To be taken for granted like this.
You wanted POWER.
And I gave it to you.-
