Sold Out Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Sold Out

The only ones disbelieving.
They have been sold out.
And done with apparent transparency.
Are the ones conducting inventory.
Of their empty shelves.
To declare themselves successful.
And told so convincingly.
By smiling and dressed to impress thieves.
Leaving with stolen property.
As they congratulate appreciative owners.
For their assistance and co-operation.
To then remind them,
Their continued support will not be forgotten.
Nor will their donations,
Be dismissed to devalue their gifts.
