wahda he mira pee looN ga tumain,
ya pyaalay main ek chummi choD do
bhool jaooN ga main sub daaro-waaroo.
rooh ki pyaas ko bujha sakta nahin koi
bujaata hai sirf mira saaeeN
agar amrit bhi muje peenay ko milay
choD dooN ga us ko tere liyay.

main ne tumain gulabi haar bheja
tumari smanat na karnay k liyay
lakin umeed kartay hue
k tere paas ye murjhaey ga na kabhi
tu ne isay siraf soonhga hi
aur bhej diya wapis jaldi se
jab ye bhad kar khusboo bikharay ga
kasam kha k main kehta hoon
saari ki saari khushboo ho gi teri.

The thirst that from the soul doth rise

I sent thee late a rosy wreath,
Not so much honouring thee
As giving it a hope, that there
It could not withered be.
But thou thereon didst only breathe,
And sent'st it back to me;
Since when it grows, and smells, I swear,
Not of itself, but thee.
