Sonnet # 1 Poem by John A. Hancock

Sonnet # 1

Tears are the water of thy soul
From the heart does thy river flow
Each tear dropp fill'd with the memories
That may come and go
When a cloud of sadness surrounds me
My cheeks are stain'd with the rain
That falls steadily dropp by drop
To try to wash away the pain
My tears to taste are bitter
But as a poet I always thrist for more
To drink from the cup of inspiration
To bring to light the words I've been searching for
Oh gentle tears how I love thee
Always now and forever more
