Sonnet - born Free, Taught To Live In Slavery

Rating: 5.0

I was born into this world free
So I could become the authentic me
But with every penny I managed to save
They taught me how to be a slave

When I was a kid I was totally free
I used to watch the stars from a tall tree
I was ignorant but I was no fool
Despite the history they taught me in school

When I became an adult no more was I free
I had to find some job and earn a salary
So I can pay for the 'things' I do not need
While feeding into someone else's greed

You and me were all born free
But most of us end up in slavery
