All hail Him in hardy times grim,
In happy, few remember Him,
If ye hail Him in times happy,
How'd adversity ever be?

Hereunder is given the original doha, a couplet by Kabeer, which when rendered in English takes all of four lines, a quatrain or more:
Dukh mein simran sab kare, sukh mein kare na koye
Jo sukh mein simran kare, tau dukh kahe ko hoye
In adverse time everyone prays, asks for His help. No one remembers Him in good times. But if you do remember Him in happy times too, adverse time would never be. Kabeer has expressed this reality in his inimitable style.
These are among the ten most famous couplets of Kabeer. There are more and we will visit some of the select ones as we go.
Topic: remember, times, happy, adverse
