Stumbling Poem by Fiona Davidson

Stumbling

I stumble over words
That sit like stones
Hidden in my heart
Weighing me down
Release doesn't come

Like a child I hold it
My inability to call out
To ask for your comfort
To be cradled warmly
Safe in your arms now

I build a wall between us
From the weight of words
I can't vocalise easily
Out in the cold air of day
For their sting would cut

My hostility heats the breeze
That flows around me fast
Burning your skin as it moves
Swiftly it leaves me alone
Silenced once again and cold
