Surrounded By Darkness Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Surrounded By Darkness

When that time comes.
And we, the people...
Stop fearing the rays of light.
From the Sun.
Done to use our minds to think.
Without pursuing self destruction.
As a means to corrupt each other.
To dupe and hookwink.
God will then show us all a way,
How to leave behind our troubles...
We, the people, have together created.
With a choosing division.
Pointless racism and hatred to celebrate.
Done to believe the doing of this,
Benefits. But who?
The few?
Opening more doors.
Exploring the bottom of pits.
Surrounded by darkness.
And unending conflicts.
Finding enemies and terrorists to accuse?

Yet...
Blinded.
Unable to believe with 'insight'.
Or vision to see.
Ourselves to have been the fools.
Doing what we do.
Further chasing greed.
Digging deeper into a darkness.
Feasting upon selfishness and deception.
Only to be left pleading,
For a way out to discover...
Values to have abandoned,
Can not be satisfied...
Without 'enlightenment'.
God provides in abundance!
Not the worshipping in things,
To ultimately get to impress.
Causing suffering and pain.
And a lot of grief left to regret.
As we, the people...
Seek God's help,
To remove ourselves from a darkness.
We created to choose to have our way!
Ourselves. You and me...
Have been the enemy.
