Swaying To The Rythm Of My Shoes Poem by Charles M Moore

Swaying To The Rythm Of My Shoes

I was sitting on my own
tapping my feet to music echo'ed on the wall
I lit a cigarette
and watched the couples as they danced around the hall
I sipped another drink
and like some apparition she slipped into view
she danced in front of me
her body swaying to the rythm of my shoes

I could feel her gazing at me
it was all that I could do but look and see
transfixed by her appearance
though I knew that she was far to young for me
I've never seen a girl
so fair and beautiful and then she smiled my way
my smile was unintentional
was flattered yet embarrased by her gaze

I beckoned her towards me
though I never really thought she'd come along
felt surprised when she came over
moving to the rythm of the song
she laughed
and then I guessed she knew the game
and wanted me to play it too
I found myself beside her body
swaying to the rythm of my shoes.

Hey, Charlie - I'd dance with you any day! Light-hearted and carefree. You just never know when the universe will give you a gift like that. Got to go with the flow.... Linda

Just a swell poem - I wish she'd dance with me - I wish I'd been there - of course, she would have danced with you instead...
