Swimming, Cowboy Style Poem by Smoky Hoss

Swimming, Cowboy Style

Rating: 5.0

I haven't been to a beach
in a month of Sundays.
With perseverance and luck, I located my ancient swim trunks,
grabbed an old towel and headed out to play.
I found the beach
and an open space,
threw my towel down, on a small patch of ground,
and claimed this little swimming place.
Lots of friendly folks
laughing and laying around,
spread out like frying fish, ready for the dish,
everywhere upon the hot ground.
Soon as I arrived
the heat got the better of me,
so, I jumped right in for a swim,
enjoying every drop of that beautiful sea.
After about ten minutes
of pure water fun,
I figured I best do like the rest,
and go to laying in the sun.
So out of the water
I did raise,
strolling along, humming a Cowboy song,
when I noticed everyone's penetrating gaze.
The beach got eerily quiet
for no good reason that I could see,
them folks was cow-faced, all about the place,
staring silently at me.
I strolled right up to my spot
there upon that busy beach,
all looks drawing near, as if to hear,
some expected-explanation speech.
Without a word, I waited a spell
before I sat,
standing there proud, in that common crowd,
the only one with water dripping...
from my old Cowboy boots and hat!

Thanks to Cowboy Ron Williams for giving the inspiration to attempt to write something humorous, and 'Western' again.

This made me smile, Smoky. My trunks aren't as old as yours, but they're now so loose, me being all of 120 lbs. soaking wet, that I need to be careful lest I find myself wholly nekked. -Glen
