The Clever Boy Poem by Anil Kumar Panda

The Clever Boy

He was very clever
That one who once pulled
Away the chair when I
Was going to sit
He did not let me fall
Held me with one hand
We both had laughed
One day he hid my school bag
Inside an empty drum that
Was brought by the electrician
To stand upon to fix
Some electrical problems
I almost wept
When final bell was rung
He returned me with
A funny smile in his face
There might be a snake in it
You must get it checked
Before you sling it around
Your shoulders
I did not use the bag again
And that clever boy died
Bitten by a snake
When he was sleeping on
The floor with his mother
And my friends said
The color of the snake was
Like the one he had planned
To leave in my school bag
