The Crocuses Poem by Reva Kern

The Crocuses

The meadow is toxic
But lovely in autumn
Grazing cows slowly weaken -
Your alluring eyes are
Like the violet flowers
Like their rings
Like this autumn -
My life is
Slowly fading away
under your gaze

The noisy schoolchildren come
Walking up with hiccups
Playing the harmonica
They pick the crocus -
like their mothers,
daughters of daughters -
That are the color
of your eyelashes
Which flutter like flowers
In a wild wind

Herdsman of the cattle
sings so sweetly
While the lowing beasts
slowly leave forever
The great meadow and
Fatal flowers of autumn
