The Crooked And Straight Poem by Aniruddha Pathak

The Crooked And Straight

Rating: 5.0

My advice honest,
A crooked tree told the rest,
Never be so straight.

It's no idle jest,
The axe first falls on the straight,
Crooked is safest.

The axe came. In haste
Fell on crooked tree's forked fate,
For firewood you're great!

Its often to true, straight and honest makes for an easier mark for the chopping block! I've seen it to many times, the crooked are often bless with fortune. The tree that is crooked lives longer, but in the end the axe gets it too. In the end everything is pulp. Not only is their wisdom in your poem but a good level of wit. Another 10! . I feel inspired! Wit and wisdom in equal combination make for a

Thanks again to visit this somewhat old poem. I'll certainly cherish your sentiments, Kevin Patrick. I feel humbled if someone gets inspired by my poems. But then there are poems that do not receive good attention.

A well penned Haiku with philosophy thrown in. The crooked seemed to live longer while the straight may have a shorter life. At the end of the day, it is the quality of life lead and good deeds that become a legacy when you are long gone while the crooked will be forgotten quickly.

You're right Philo Yan, but I think no reader is wrong in her/his interpretation. Thanks for visiting my poem and giving feedback on how you feel.

Yet, sometimes fate plays with us. There are cases that the good ones sometimes die ahead of the crooked one's. We usually question the wisdom of God when it happens. The crooked stayed long on earth and spread their wickedness and we usually say " life is not fair" .

You feel good when you read so many interpretations. Now, when I was a school student our language teacher would want us to paraphrase a poem, which I thought was meaningless an exercise and never used to like. At that time of my life, and much much later I never thought one day I would write poems and do poetic translations! ! Thank you nevertheless and no less.

A wonderful haiku so cleverly written. No one can escape death. Like a thief in the night, death comes unexpectedly. And it is in accordance with God's own time.

A poem can have as many interpretations as are readers. And that is the beauty of poetry vis-a-vis prose. Thank you.

The axe came. In haste Fell on crooked tree's forked fate, For firewood you're great! - - - - - A great poem.Yes, it is true that righteous persons go through difficulties. But 'wrong'or crookedness will not go unpunished. At some point of time they have to face the cosequences of their action.

Thank you Bharati Nayak. You are absolutely right about 'at some point of time...' But I was just reminded of the wit of a wit who said, 'in the long run every body is dead'.
