The Emmett Till Story Poem by Dorsey Baker

The Emmett Till Story

Rating: 5.0

They said it was
An act of disrespect
What he did
And for that
He was beaten bloody
And then
He was killed
Just a boy back then
Emmett till

His face disfigured
His busted head
A victim of vicious blows
They killed him dead

His body discarded
In the raging river
To hide it deep
He was just a boy back then
Emmett till
An evil act
Demons so dark
That will never ever
Be allowed to sleep

The two evil men
Finally confessed
That they had lied
About what happened
That day that Emmett till died
So bothered with guilt
The truth they could
No longer hide
And you ask yourself why
Emmett till
Just a boy back then
Had to
So brutally die? !

Very poignant recalling of the Emmet Till Story. Heartbreaking. But the rogues who killed him and mutilated his body were acquitted by an all-white jury. The rogues continued to live their full life, during which they made money, telling and reselling the story. How bad injustice!
