The Extirpation Of Desire (By St. Thiruvalluvar) Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

The Extirpation Of Desire (By St. Thiruvalluvar)

361.The wise say that the seed which gives the birth
For all beings at all times without fail is the desire.
362.When you desire anything, desire not to be born again.
Desire to be free of all desires helps desist from birth.
363.Freedom from desire is the glorious wealth.
Wealth greater than it is not in this or that world.
364.Purity is not having desire.
That will result from seeking the truth.
365.Men detached from desire will not be born again.
Men attached to desire will be born again and again.
366.The great virtue is the fear to desire.
Cheating someone is the evil desire.
367.If one extirpates one’s total desire,
Good deeds come and give benefits as he wants.
368.Those who have no desire don’t feel sorrow.
The presence of desire brings woes after woes.
369.If desire, the woe of woes dies away in your heart
Pleasure unceasing is yours in this world itself.
370.If you extinguish the desire that never fills your heart
It will at once give an eternal blissful state.
