The Fall Of The Arrogant Poem by Mohammad Younus

Arrogance walks upon the earth with a lifted chin, as if the heavens were too low for its gaze. It scoffs at the whispers of truth, silencing the voice that calls it to humility. But does not the wind remind us of the fate of Aad? A people mighty in stature, defiant in their wealth, yet felled by a roaring storm that did not cease for seven nights and eight days (Qur'an 69: 6-7) . The sand buried their pride, and their fortresses became hollow echoes of their own disbelief.

And Pharaoh—did he not declare, 'I am your lord, the Most High'? (Qur'an 79: 24) . Yet the sea swallowed him whole, and neither his throne nor his armies could keep him from drowning in the decree of justice. Power that stands against truth is but an illusion, a mirage that vanishes when the sun of reckoning rises.

The Fragility of Wealth and Power

Gold clings to the hands of the miser, but when the Angel of Death arrives, does it buy even a breath? Qarun strutted in garments heavy with jewels, his keys weighing down strong men, yet the earth opened its mouth and consumed him along with his treasures (Qur'an 28: 81) . Wealth that blinds the soul only serves as shackles when the hour of judgment comes.

The Prophet (ﷺ) warned of the fool who hoards riches but forgets his soul, saying, 'The son of Adam says: 'My wealth, my wealth! ' But what is truly his wealth except what he eats and consumes, what he wears and wears out, or what he gives in charity that remains for him? ' (Muslim 2958) .

The Illusion of Family Privilege

No hand holds back the decree of truth, not even the hand of blood. When Noah (peace be upon him) called to his son as the waves rose, did his lineage save him? 'O my son, embark with us and do not be with the disbelievers! ' (Qur'an 11: 42) . But arrogance drowned him, for no mountain could shield him from the command of the Most High.

And the uncle of the Prophet (ﷺ) , Abu Lahab—he stood in defiance though he shared the same lineage as the Seal of Prophets. But blood ties do not sanctify the rebellious heart. 'Perish the hands of Abu Lahab, and perish he! ' (Qur'an 111: 1) . The Prophet (ﷺ) himself declared, 'O Fatima, daughter of Muhammad! I cannot save you from Allah in anything. Ask of me whatever you like from my wealth.' (Bukhari 2753, Muslim 204) .

Hatred Against Truth: A Poisonous Fire

The heart that rages against truth is like a house engulfed in flames—its own walls collapse upon it. Did not Iblis burn with hatred when Adam was honored? He refused to bow, and his arrogance cast him out, cursed until the final day (Qur'an 7: 12-13) .

And Abu Jahl—his enmity against the Prophet (ﷺ) blinded him until his pride led him to Badr, where his body lay in the dust, his power and status reduced to nothing. The Prophet (ﷺ) once said, 'Hatred and envy consume good deeds just as fire consumes wood.' (Abu Dawood 4903) .

Truth stands unmoved, though storms rage against it. The proud may raise their fists, but time will bring them low. The wise bow before the truth and rise, while the arrogant resist and are cast down. So choose your stance, for the winds of destiny do not favor the defiant.
