The First Steps Are Always The Heaviest... Poem by Sebastian Melmoth

The First Steps Are Always The Heaviest...

Rating: 5.0

Crusty eye lids, aching toes, Itchiness ‘oh' my physical woes
Popping pills to fake life support to dull the sadness of madness that flows

Feeling older each day, each hour, each minute, each second, that passes
Helplessness of the inevitable crawl

Random thoughts popping into my head as if conducting mini plays of the mind
Words descriptions reeling, Thesaurus in my brain working overtime.

Lifting the lid of consciousness what lessons will I find, will be learnt in time
Body shakes, quiver with every move
When will I get my groove?

Need to draw a line, move on, move forward
Easier said than done for those looking from the outside in

Be your own motivator, know you can make it, come back from this abyss
It's never too late to reach out for the hands of human kindness

You only have yourself to prove that you can do this not for the audience outside
It needs to start within you, be your own believer, be true

When standing up for the first time after years of frailty, weakness and pain
Remember to keep an eye on the destination because the first steps are always the heaviest.
