The Grey Haired Lovers
Deep inside the wasteland
a tune hung on the air
filled with love and sentiment
for lovers with grey hair.
For fifty years he held her close
they laughed they cried, they sometimes joked
they often spoke of days they shared
of dashing youths without a care.
The grey haired lovers in full embrace
with sunshine beaming from their face
fingers entwined as if were one
a life's long love so filled with fun
they made a daughter, then a son.
Her sunshine smile kept him alive
when nights were long and days
were short, thoughts of her
would keep him warm.
His one time bliss was now
in shatters, emotionally drained
his hearts in tatters
for off to heaven one did go.
The grey haired lovers are no more
so heartbroken, as he swore
one day soon they'll meet again
the grey haired lovers will return.
'For fifty years he held her close they laughed they cried, they sometimes joked they often spoke of days they shared of dashing youths without a care. The grey haired lovers in full embrace with sunshine beaming from their face fingers intwinded as if were one a lifes long love so filled with fun they made a daughter, then a son.' this is a sorry well worth telling, beautiful
I'm so happy that it seems that a lot of people can relate to this...it's like relationships were strong back then......for some.....lucky ones...
It really is a beautiful poem, Annette. My parents never stopped loving each other. sadly my mother was relatively young when she died and my father was never the same again and never remarried. So I can identify with your poem in a very real way.

Very heartfelt poem, it must be hard when a lifelong companion is lost.
