Reclaiming Sunshine
Behind the Mask
he hides away
shunned by people all his days
he craved for love and understanding
the simple things this life could offer him
to walk beneath the sun at noon
to swim between the blue lagoons
for crashing waves to knock him over
to run so fast, his heart will flutter
to climb the mountains far and wide
yell HELLO to the other side
to hear his echo grow and grow.
to make snow angels in the snow
the simple things in life we know
he craves from us to be included
to reclaim sunshine so far eluded.
Who are we to stand in his way?
as annette explained in a note to me, her poem is about bullied people getting to live a pleasant life, an un-bullied life. i thought***** it might be about a vampire or other horrid creature who shied away from people (normally) for one reason or another, therefore not enjoying a walk beneath the noon sun etc. but is it possible that some 'bullies' are bullies to make up for their own insecurities? perhaps with the proper upbringing, and counseling they could stop being bullies and enjoy life more? ! think about it. in any case, i liked the poem. favorite lines: to climb the mountains far and wide yell HELLO to the other side and he craves from us to be included to reclaim sunshine so far eluded. Who are we to stand in his way? ========================================= *****the poem Annette sent to me in a note, for my consideration to use in Section C, October showcase, had this title only: Reclaiming Sunshine. thanks, Annette. i'll put into Oct-C and into MyPoemList. your poems often are somewhat exhilarating! bri :)
Reclaiming Sunshine. Now that is a title. So many do not spend the time they should in writing a title that has to do with the poem it introduces, nor do they create a title that stands out, intrigues. When we're touring the aisles of a bookstore, we [after checking out our favorite authors] look at the titles of the books and once intrigued, we take the book down and thumb through it to see if we are interested. The same thing goes for poetry. And you nailed the Title in my opinion. I was running my eyes over the list of your poems and this title said Read Me! ! ! The following verses backed up the promise of the title. Well done, Annette. 10

A.nother fine poem. Reclaiming sunshine is a great title, as Susan says. The person who reclaims it always brings us some back to share
