The Jam Tree Poem by Palitha Ranatunge

The Jam Tree

Fox tails, begonias, bogan villas
And number of other bourgeoisie plants
Stood with their proud attires
In the front rows of the garden
Not even an insect lay down
Their feet for a short rest.
In many a plant nurseries
These plant are for sale
At highly unbelivable prices,

One jam tree stood humbly
At one neglected corner
But with an untamed beauty
Fluttering its velvety green leaves
Gently with the gentle breeze
Accompanied by number of
Colourful birds - squirrels,
giving them caring and shelter within
Its spacious green umbrella
Offering them its sweetest fruit.

Alas! amazingly, I found out
In all plant nurseries
Jam tree is not for sale
My siily query was promptly answered
No one cares to spend
A worthy penny on such useless!
