The Last Breath Poem by Nicole Delong

The Last Breath

You were fine that final day.
Now you lay motionless,
Silence all about.
Thinking of what to say
I stood beside you.
Day and night
I wished it could go away,
That none of this was real.
In the moment tears streamed down my face,
You placed your hand in mine.
My life was good
I had lived what I could.
It's time for me to go.
Hands shaking with the words.
I'm not ready for you to go.
As tears run down my face,
Again you softly spoke, It's time for me to go.
I feel my heart break
With a final breath you spoke once more.
The words I love you were spoken in faded tones.
Your eyes began to close
And the hand began to fall.
I wasn't ready but, you were.
