The Last Year! ! ! Poem by Jenny Molloy

The Last Year! ! !

The last bell rings, the English voice says goodbye.
Class room like a battle field, running for the door.
I sit waiting for them all to go, take it all in.
One year fly’s by so fast, only started yesterday I taught.
Plenty of new friends,
From her big blue eyes and her welcoming smile I say goodbye.
With car keys in hand and hair like fire he winks going past,
I laugh as I see her drawl over that teacher,
Where did this last year go, can we not turn back time.
The first day he was dummied with that hat you no, no teacher liked it I say,
And his best friend walking him round school with his large smile.
I see one’s black hair as he walks from the school, next to him the one with spiked hair.
The one who smokes away as he gets on his bus,
Next to the two lads that miss home I bet.
I wave goodbye to the boxer who spent most of the time being a tattoo artist,
And walk be hind the boy with funny shapes.
I going miss them all this summer,
Will he get his hair cut I ask as he walks away with the band in his ear.
The small one I see chatting to another girl,
And then him who loves his bike walks out last.
I wonder where the last year went,
Feels like yesterday we only started.
