The Lost Reason. Poem by Geoffrey Fafard

The Lost Reason.

Rating: 4.7

I have in my garden
A small Honey Eater
A Sunbird
A tiny bird, frail
He is last on the chain
Of all that is feathered
He is chased, threatened
And stood over by
Mighty birds of prey
Plus all manner of
Dark foragers

Yet…

His house is an
Awesome, beautiful structure
His diligence is
Uncompromising,
Never ending
His colour comes
From the sun
And from nectar
Flowers keep
Just for him

Yet…

He is the smallest of giants
The toughest of the meek
A bird as light as
The world around him
Is heavy
I am lost in
My reasoning
As to why his strength
Tenacity and sheer might
Terrify me so.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
He lives so close to me in his house and hopes
my presence will keep away those that would
destroy. He trusts me more than I do.
On a quiet night I can hear his heart beat.Maybe it's mine.
