The Angel of Tomorrow (The agonies of a little boy lost in the dark)
The angel of tomorrows light
Saw me shed a tear
Why do you cry so in the dark?
What do you fear?
I will tell you what I worry about my friend
I replied as quietly I searched her face
What if this night won't go
What if the cool wind won't blow
What if my smile ceases to show
What if my friends don't know
What if I lose the way to go
What if the forest moon won't glow
What if it does not rain or snow
And what if this mountain stream won't flow

Wait wait wait she cried
You are too impatient by far
Have you not trusted me before
And she threw back her hair
Raised her hands and squeezed the black night
There she laughed, there Geoffrey
Look I have given you another day
Do with it what you may
I should have trusted her..eh?
Yes, you should have trusted her. She brought you through all right. Keep writing!
Very inspiring, Geoffrey! When given another day, what will we do with it? Who knows how much time any of us have left?
So true, reminding us that not one day on this earth has been promised to us so live exuberantly large, love large, laugh large. Thank you so much for sharing....and, I ask...What did you do with your angel squeezed day?
Loza. Thank you for your comments. Wonderful...! With my angel squeezed day I hugged and caressed the earth that I then could see. I have been doing this to our beautiful planet ever since..... Cheers, Geoffrey.
a wonderful poem of a promise to give you new light? an inspiring write!
'I have given you another day' - how soon we forget how lucky we really are. Great poem Geoffrey.
Thank you so much Paul. You hit the nail right on the head, we do…..
And I'm glad to hear that your angel spoke back to you! I love the phrase and she squeezed the black night as if she were wringing out a dirty towel to make it clean and light again....at least that was what I imagined. I grew up afraid of the dark, so I felt I could personally relate to this poem. Imagination is a gift and a curse. Thanks for sharing your poem. Well done!
Take a small child plus imagination, blend them together and bingo..! You imagined the absolute scenario Pamela.Great comments. So good of you, Cheers Geoff.
