The Lover As An Ideal Poem by Raj Dronamraju

The Lover As An Ideal

The lover as an ideal
Not as someone, something real

The lover as an ideal
Thought about when alone
Thought about when with another
The ideal being someone other than the person you are with

The lover as an ideal
The concept fantasized from age 13 upwards
Paramount to an ever maturing vision is a blow-up doll that can make decent repartee

I stared at you and you stared back
I could only think of a fantasy and a concept but not the two together

The ever shifting needs bounce around opposite from the burgeoning self respect
The knowledge of when not to try too hard
The indolence that comes with a break from reality
