The monsoon comes by every year
Bringing grief to all in the lowlands
Its destructive path is held in fear
For its fury nothing can withstand
Ominous clouds will first declare
That torrential rain is on the way
Gloom and depression fills the air
For the storm cannot be held at bay
The sun for days will hide his face
Behind the clouds covering the sky
Creatures will be seeking a dry place
To hide till the monsoon had gone by
The sky opened and rain in torrents fell
Lashing winds adding to the devastation
For the unprepared it was a death knell
Falling before its path without exception
Then the situation gets really grave
Water gushing from the mountainside
It will hit the plains like a tidal wave
For those yet to move woe will betide
The houses that line the river edge
Are strongly lashed to trees nearby
Logs and debris will hit like a sledge
With a force even trees cannot defy
Borne by the river in an endless stream
Their toil and hopes being carried away
Helpless to stop the damage extreme
Then night creeps in to end the sad day
Soon it was gone, the eye of the storm
What a relief as rain and flood abates
Creatures then return and life is reborn
Such is the way nature has dictate
An excellent description of the Monsoon, as I'm always thirsty for knowledge, it was lovely to read your poem Loke Kok Yee...10
During the time of monsoon, sometimes the heavens open, pouring out in torrents, causing the lands to inundate and the rivers to go into spate! The people in the low lying areas are the worst hit! The havoc, the floods bring is beyond repair. Sometimes the rain will stop abruptly and life goes back to normal! The monsoon fury is brought out in all its intensity!
True features of monsoon nicely written in poetic format.............Loved it......10++
The fury brought in by torrential rains and the relief felt by people when the rain stops have come alive in this poem. Thank you so much.

I would like to translate this poem
Nature is so ominously powerful and no man made structure is forever. Even stone is worn away by the elements. What a well constructed interesting poem. I have always been curious what it would be like to live in countries that have annual monsoon and how people cope with that. I can imagine the clouds being so foreboding and the following torrents of rain relentless. Excellent poem, you know your craft Loke...10++++
You don't want to be around when the monsoon hits! Can be very devastating and certainly miserable. Thanks Simone
