The More You Hate Poem by Patti Masterman

The more you hate someone,
The more they will not go away-
No, indeed; and will never go away,
Not even if the world burn,
Melt, or turn to glaciers;
And not even if it should plummet screaming, into darkest space,
Or into any of an untold number of hell worlds
That religion tells us must exist,
Even if nobody has ever seen one.

Only hate continually resurrects itself,
And seems to contain all the seeds of eternal life.
