The Old Woman Poem by Anil Kumar Panda

The Old Woman

now she sleeps alone
on the mat, on the floor
she is afraid of thieves
and tightly closes the door

now she is bent double
walks with the help of a stick
she can't cook and eat
now she is thin and feels weak

she is mother to all
and left by his own son
who read well and for a job
to a distant land long gone

her husband is dead
she can't call no one her own
she knows some day
she would fall and die alone

The poem is a poignant description of an old woman left alone to fend for herself. It is really a very sad story.
