The Only True Witness Is God

the only true witness is God

the one who won't leave you

who sees the whole trial

from beginning to end

who only can amend

what starts to go wrong

before sentence is pronounced

to You I submit all pleas

to Christ, only mercies

for those accusing

and for those accused

the one who can't be recused

who never would choose to be

why would I have reason to doubt you

whose eyesight is not precarious

who has shouldered the whole burden

in and out of court as if it were Your Own

who knows the end from the beginning

as well as our own palms. our qualms

who carries the map of all things

the chambers of my heart

and under whose wings

I may not depart.
