Curiosity
stretched out like a trap
pulling him past the borders of cool judgement
into a fractured state of mind.
Then—
the onset.
A sudden, elating tremor in the blood
surging upward
flooding every single cell with temporary euphoria
as skin tingles and goosebumps rise.
But the sedation is a liar.
The sweet reward narrows into an obsession,
a chronic disorder of the brain
dictating choices from the dark.
Look how easily everything slips through his fingers:
the job,
the dreams,
the friends,
the basic urge to eat, to sleep, to survive.
