The Pride Of A Mother Poem by Diana van den Berg

The Pride Of A Mother

Not just because he won his first election as a Ward Councillor
last night some hours after midnight
when the counting was over
at all seven of the ward’s voting stations
but because of all he has been his thirty-eight years,
a shining example
of someone who is almost all things bright
to almost all people and animals
in the community
and beyond,
but mostly to his sister and parents
and his wife and children
and his animals
and himself.
