She cried when she found her bicycle had been stolen
Lay on the bed in a fetal ball and emitted loud heaving sobs
The chain that had been cut flopped in the wind
Her expensive tennis shoes commiserated open mouthed
She shouted in anger when she saw a post on social media about an abused cat
She shook a fist and vowed bloody vengeance
Said she preferred animals to people then went to spend the night at a guy's house
She didn't react at all to news stories about US military actions in far-off countries
Killing not only enemy combatants but women and children trying to lead their lives as well
Let God sort them out is a capitalist paradigm
She reacted with annoyance at the homeless man on the corner
They called him George the Wolfman because he made howling noises
She hugged her chest and ran by him quickly when he asked her for spare change
When George died of exposure a few months later, she allowed herself a little smile

Though I agree somewhat with the portrait that you have sketched and it is disturbing but I think it is unfair to put it singularly on female. If any body to blame it is the priority of a society as to what kind of messages are being delivered to youngsters. In U.S. Or anywhere else. Our own generation can't escape from its responsibilities either. We are the ones who took family responsibility and child rearing so lightly.
