The Song Of Life: 11. Man Of Equanimity



O Alpha among men!
He that unchanged remains
Pleasure be or pain,
Tormented not, sun or rain,
A wise man of patience,
Tolerance, forbearance,
He the Immortal attains. || 2.15 ||

Here is the transliteration with the meanings of Sanskrit words:

yam hi na vyathayanti ete puruśham puruśha-ŗśhabha |
sama-duhkha-sukham dhīram sah amritatvāya kalpate ||

yam hi: to whoso, (he)to whom indeed (these sensations): na vyathayanti: torment not, bother not; ete: these; puruśham: men; puruśha-ŗśhabha: O Bull/best among men; sama-duhkha-sukham: alike, the same in pain and pleasure, joy and sorrows; dhīram: the wise, patient, a man of forbearance; sah: he; amritatvāya: to/for immortality, eternal life; kalpate: is considered (suitable) .
