The Toronto Floods of 1954 and its impact on me who came into existence on June 4th,1968
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
I had learnt about the floods back in my graduate chemical engineering school days at U of Toronto
When I was researching in the basement of the Science and Medicine Library
Where mouldy but ever so precious engineering and scientific papers are catalogued and kept
Along with some books and all this makes me ever so hungry for love of a professional kind
From my peers and past professors and past colleagues;

Some of the catalogued and bound books of journals have wrinkled pages and a few are missing
And the helpful librarians say that it is all because of the floods
And now I read that it was Hurricane Hazel about whom I learnt also
In a Toronto Environmental Alliance outing in Old Mill during the last fall
And if one led to some fruitful searches of beautiful engineering
The other led to an enjoyable, warm afternoon and an apple to munch on;

If books hold us spellbound
Scientific and engineering papers interest us
And I say since I have been published in Water Research, Enzyme and Microbial Technology and
Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology
That if Water Research makes the data come alive
Enzyme and Microbial Technology seduces
And Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology deduces
And together all the three on PubFacts shine on like a brilliant diamond
Which has lost its sparkle and shine because it remained partially uncut;

But it is all about the fight, the battleground and the victory
And if I strive for success in science and engineering
I contrive (from the Oxford English Dictionary: plan in a skillful way)to be the best in the arts and literature areas
None of it is easy and in many ways, although it has been a pleasure
It has been a grind, the lack of recognition and the lack of financial rewards;

But I carry on blithely and to herald a new beginning and a closure to success in its lesser form
I shall make a flower arrangement and title it as Journey of Labour: The Fight, The Battleground and The Victory
And I have tried hard to make it all happen, the re-publication and payment for my continued efforts
And I have apparent promises from PM Justin Trudeau, Mr. David Walmsley of The Globe and Mail,
Ms. Kristin Cochrane of Penguin Random House Canada, Kelly Kirch of Rogers Sportsnet and Stephen Jost of the Art Gallery of Ontario, not to mention the other indefinite promises
But there is always solace in the fact that if there is day and night, there is also the recurrence of the day and night for the earth rotates on its axis in 24 hours
And revolves around the sun in 365 days and it is 2019;

The flower arrangement shall have a rhodendron,2 hydrangeas with a rose and this is the fight of the feminine feminist woman, Gayathri B. Seetharam, myself
And my battleground deserves a word of explanation for it is the fact that I am widely published on the internet and hence it is lush green landscape or green chrysanthemums
And the victory which shall come soon, in early 2019 and hence I shall denote this by the arrival of good fortune
And this shall be a palm leaf and some colourful, beautiful flowers.
