The Wasted Journey Poem by Scarlett Treat

The Wasted Journey

The sun was shining so brightly,
shooting beams and arrows of light,
like a spotlight,
pinning me down
as the shadow of my former self
and I walk about.

I was just learning
to say goodbye
to my tears,
my fears,
hoping to see them
go away,
knowing I had something
to say,
trying to get on
with my life
someway.

I've gone a thousand miles
to get to a nowhere place,
and I have only come
full circle,
to be right back
where I started.

No change of scene
on the outside
has changed the tears
I cried
on the inside,

Nor has it mended
this broken heart,
the one I loaned to you,
the one you returned
broken into a million pieces.
