The Weeds Engulfing The Seeds
Don't say the government has no business
to do business with the farmers' produce.
You send satellites of other nations
from our country's launching pads for pelf.
You make weapons and sell to poor nations.
You purchase arms and supersonic aircrafts
by paying huge packs of brokerage to barons
who are also exempted from paying back
what they get as loans from banks with your nod.
Are these acts not of doing business?
A ruler who is a slave to corporates
wants to make the heads of farmers, bend
before the business magnets, the burglars
who loot the health and wealth of the nation;
These kingpins crease the palms of the rulers
and help them with containers of money
and hack the EVMs to win the polls and hold the power.
They sabotage the struggles of farmers
with new tactics and tricks in vain.
The farmers brave the hot and cold seasons,
lose for ever some of their farming folks,
yet hold the reins and continue war in peace.
They are terrorists since they terrorize
the barren lands with the plough and clear the thorns
and kill the venomous creatures!
They are separatists as they take out the weeds
which engulf the seeds as the worst are weaned off
from the good. God alone can save the farmers
from the clutches of unruly gang of thugs!
When the rulers turn a deaf ear to your demands
Why you farm-folks starve and die on the roads?
Set up Farmers-forum in all the hamlets
and put your thumping step in politics.
Drive out these shoddy hoons with their flags
and take the reins of the government
to teach the world how a government should be
not imposing any cult, tongue or way of life
on those who do not want such obsolete things.
POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
It is the pathetic story of the farmers in India lying on the road and waiting for the government to repeal some draconian laws passed against their profession.
