Then I Awoke Poem by Randy McClave

Then I Awoke

She sat at the foot of my bed
She told me to rest my head,
Then I heard her say
Do not ever forget to pray.
Before you go to sleep
Even before you start counting sheep,
Remember the work you have done
And victories that you lost and won.
Do not ever lie or cheat
Do not fill your heart with deceit,
And your brothers and sisters do not judge
From truth and honesty do not ever budge.
Do not ever invite or accept hate
Don't let damnation be your fate,
And those who have done you wrong;
Sing them a happy song.
Do not ever resort to lies
Don't let broken promises be your guise
And if a love has broken your heart;
Give them that part.
Always help and always forgive
Do not be spiteful and combative,
And if against you they have committed a sin
Then forgive them once again.
Remember this, do not be like me
Instead be like he,
Give roses and not a wreath
And keep your sword in its sheath.

Then she whispered in my ear
Then she said do not ever live in fear,
Remember what I have spoke
Then I awoke.
