There Is No Launching Of Despair Upon The Beautiful Waters

there is no launching of despair

upon the beautiful waters

only intransigent, golden hope

can carry you over the crumbling stair

can carry you, ferry you over the ruins

and set you on a greening shore

and that is why in a doubting age

dear Father, I only love you more

a cynical, proud and dystopian age

can never to dreams aspire

it's hope you need to weather the storms

and quench, impervious, all the brushfires.

so if you say in a postmodern age

I'm the poet of dark not bright

Im telling you now

you're at the wrong house

all my life I have fought for the Light.
