Thermopylae Poem by Garrett Binford

Thermopylae

The 300 Spartans, who we all know so well,
Stood fast at Thermopylae against Xerxes will.
These 300 Spartans, accompanied by their squires and other Greek souls,
Actually stood 4000 strong with weapons and armor.

They stood there,4000 men, with all the courage they could find,
To face the Persians with no peace of mind.
They knew it was suicide, defending the narrow pass,
But they had to buy time for the rest of Greece to mass.

Some men deserted in fear for their families,
Others stood strong and became heroes.
But those we don't remember are the ones who gave the most.
They have every right to boast.

They gave their blood, sweat, and tears,
They fought off their fears.
And slaughtered millions of Persian men.
They took no prisoners, they killed them all.

These 4000 Greeks were the best of the best.
They had built bodies and a hairy chest.
They trained since they were young
So that proved they were strong.
They fought to the death, with a noble cause.

Their bodies were filled with lances without pause.
The Persians killed them with anger in their eyes.
They protected the king's body, even in death.
They defended the pass, till the last breath.

They lost the battle, but won the war.
They defended bravely, on Greece's floor.
They sent a message far and wide.
We will fight, we will not hide.
