Things That Cannot Be Compared Poem by Ravi Kopra

Things That Cannot Be Compared

Cheezain jo ek doosray k khilaaf hain

garmi aur sardi
din aur raat
dhoop aur baarish
jawaani aur buDappa
hansi aur gussa
safed aur kaala
mohabbat aur nafrat
cHota sa indigo ka pauda aur aur baDa phiodendroin
baarish aur dhund

'jab koi kisi ko pyaar karna
bund kar deta hai
to usay lagta hai
k vo koi aur bun gaya hai
halaaN k vo vohi hi aadmi hai.'

'haray bhray baag maon
kaway so rahain hain
fir aadhi raat ko
ek peD par soay kawway
ek dum uth baithay hain
ghabrahat mainuDnay lagtay hain.
un ki baichaani dooray kawaoN ko
jo aur paiDon pe soay huay hain
dar main utha baithi hai aur vo
bhi khatray main kaaN kaaN karnay lagtay hain.
Din k aur raat k kawoN main
ye kitna farak hai! '

'Things That Cannot Be Compared'
~ from the Pillow Book of Sei Shōnagon

Summer and Winter
Night and Day
Rain and Sunshine
Youth and Age
A person's laughter and his anger
Black and White
Love and Hatred
The little indigo plant and the great philodendron
Rain and Mist

'When one has stopped loving somebody,
One feels that he has become someone else,
Even though he is still the same person'.

'In a garden full of evergreens the crows are all asleep. Then, towards the middle of the night, the crows in one of the trees suddenly wake up in a great flurry and start flapping about. Their unrest spreads out to the other trees, and soon all the birds have been startled from their sleep and are cawing in alarm. How different from the same crows in daytime! '
